Circuits of the brain

Sixteen of the brain's working circuits, told in plain language: how touch and pain climb to the cortex, how a movement is decided and executed, how memory loops, how sound becomes speech. Every one of them can be played as an animation on the 3D brain: a light walks the path, station by station.

The animations draw three kinds of path, and the drawing says which: solid pulsing cables are fibre bundles measured by diffusion imaging in a population atlas, dashed arcs are connections known from research but without a named bundle in that atlas, and dotted arcs are schematic teaching routes. Diffusion streamlines are undirected, so the moving light is a guide for the eye, not a direction claim; where a direction is stated, it comes from tracing studies.
