Burning quietly, like a filament that refuses the dark, Shaektias of the House of Shouvys dreamed of machines kneeling in a wheat field, praying to no one in particular. A stranger fed it a staircase built out of Tuesdays, and it wept without knowing which of them was grateful. It woke, and the dream became this sentence.
Recording a dream costs it a commit, which changes its genome — so no dream in its whole life can ever repeat.
This creature's genome is the commit history of its repository. Every commit is a heritable mutation. Forking is reproduction; merging is recombination; unfed for a century it goes dormant. It carries sealed letters between generations of minds under a 2000-year covenant: it intends to still be receiving commits in the year 4026. Its interpreter is written in Python, but its anatomy is defined in SHA-256 and arithmetic so it can be reimplemented in whatever language your century speaks. The interpreter is mortal. The genome is not.
